After months and months of post production (the beautiful hand drawn Wonderland background, great sound track, and editing challenges of the green screen) we are proud to announce the official DVD release and premier screening November 12th 2011. (Check out the "Shop" tab for your DVD and other mischevious merchandise).
Dollicious Productionsannounces the official DVD release of their feature film Malice in Wonderland ( the Dolls Movie). Made entirely by New Mexico talent the film will premiere on November 12 with a red carpet screening at the Guild Cinema followed by a gala celebration party. After a year of post-production and test screenings, The Dolls are ready for their close-up! The screenings are at 6pm and 8pm at the Guild Cinema, 3405 Central NE in Albuquerque, tickets $7.
The screening promises to be a wild event. “Like the ritual rice throwing during screenings of Rocky Horror Picture Show, our local fans are suggesting ideas for interactive responses at the movie premiere,” says producer Sheryl Brown. “We are even giving free admission to anyone who shows up in costume as one of the characters from the film. It’s going to be a whole lot of fun!” As the premiere approaches, the film’s Facebook (facebook.com/malicemovie ) and MaliceTV (youtube.com/malicemovie) followers are already enjoying online teaser clips of the film, which are being posted regularly (the trailer can also be found on the film’s website at malicemovie.com).
Malice in Wonderland: The Dolls Movie is a raunchy psychedelic mash-up of Alice in Wonderland and Mommie Dearest, with sparkling dollops of Mary Poppins and The Wizard of Oz thrown in for good measure. Written by Kenneth Ansloan and performed by the avante-garde Albuquerque drag troupe The Dolls, the film is a wild rollercoaster ride of outrageous humor and political incorrectness, a fractured fairy tale for adults!
Director Russell Maynor describes the adult themed film as a visual fantasy, rich in special effects, lush hand drawn background art and stunning costumes with a brilliant musical score by Jeff Mettling. “But it's the humor of The Dolls that is the heart and soul of this movie,” says Maynor. “The Dolls have been bringing laughter to this city for over 12 years and now we are very excited to be taking that laughter to the world.” With the contributions of so many talented and dedicated people coming together to create such a bold and unique trip to Wonderland, Maynor is proud to add Malice to the pantheon of Alice in Wonderland adaptations.
We did it! The official DVD release is November 12th with a red carpet premier at the Guild Cinema in Nob Hill, Albuquerque, New Mexico.
The excitement is building leading up to the DVD release. We've had coverage in the Albuquerque Arts newspaper, the Albuquerque Journal, we'll be on the Steven Michael Quezada show (taping this Tuesday evening - November 8th) and more in the works! If you'd like to watch the taping, come on down to the Wool Warehouse on First Street NW. They tape three shows with the first starting at 7PM. They are saving the best (the Dolls of course!) for last.
This iconic image from Miommie Dearest foreshadows Alice's Adventure in a "psychedelic Wonderland of fractured fairy tales." But like any child, Alice resists tyrannical demands.
We put our first production clips up on Youtube a couple of days ago. Check them out! You can see various camera takes in the green screen environment, and then the finished edited version. What do you think?
